Give strength work a place in the week.

A nutrition conversation about muscle can quickly become a conversation about which tub to buy. It is useful to leave space for the movement itself.

Think about the activity first

WHO guidance includes muscle-strengthening as part of being active. [1] The suitable version depends on where you are starting, your ability and any health concerns.

For some people, that means learning how to use a resistance band or weights with guidance. For others, a professional assessment helps decide a manageable starting point.

The first task can be finding a place in the week and a way to learn safely, rather than choosing the hardest session.

Let food support the plan

Food matters too. A protein supplement cannot tell you which exercise is appropriate or replace a sensible training plan.

This note does not prescribe exercises, loads or a protein dose. It makes room for a question a supplement advert can miss: what activity will you actually practise, and how will you progress it appropriately?

Sources, evidence and limits

Evidence basis

[1] WHO — Physical activity
Definitions, main recommendations and sedentary-time sections read.
Everyday movement and strength work have a place; no personality prescription or fixed step target.

Least certain: Individual ability, technique and optimal training/nutrition prescription were not assessed.

Contrary evidence and limits: Protein adequacy matters, especially in undernutrition; an exercise-first planning question does not make food unimportant.

What would change the conclusion: Injury, frailty, medical conditions or a qualified assessment changes the starting point.

Claims not adopted: No universal whey requirement, guaranteed muscle growth or unsupervised exercise protocol.
