Black beans and cabbage for a different dinner.

Black beans and cabbage for a different dinner — imagined serving.
AI-generated serving idea; not a photograph of a kitchen-tested recipe.

Some dinners need a way to put several small things together. A warm tortilla is good at that.

Build a small batch

Try one 400 g can of black beans, drained and rinsed; four small tortillas; a handful of finely shredded cabbage; one chopped tomato; half a lime; and a teaspoon of oil. Ground cumin is optional.

Warm the beans in a pan with the oil, a splash of water and cumin if using. Heat thoroughly, following the can’s directions, and mash a few beans to bring the filling together.

Warm the tortillas as instructed. Fill with beans, cabbage and tomato, then add lime at the table. Use cabbage and tomato washed before cutting.

Let each person finish their own

Keep the fresh toppings separate until you eat. Someone may want more crunch; someone else may prefer less filling and another tortilla.

This is not a lower-carbohydrate challenge. The tortilla is part of the dinner. Check its ingredients for wheat and other allergens, and use a version that suits you.

Development draft: not kitchen-tested. Quantities, texture and yield need checking.

Sources, evidence and limits

Evidence basis

Practical editorial opinion; no clinical effect is claimed or independently established.

Least certain: Taste, texture, yield and preparation time have not been tested.

Contrary evidence and limits: Ingredient facts do not establish this dish’s health effects or make it a complete meal for everyone.

What would change the conclusion: Kitchen testing, ingredient brands, allergies or individual dietary needs may require changes.

Claims not adopted: No inherited nutrient totals, medicinal benefits, source-author experiences or validated substitution claims.
