A day-of-eating article can leave you with a shopping list longer than you expected. Powders, special drinks and several separate meals can make an ordinary dinner seem less impressive than it needs to be.

Here is a simpler starting point: beans warmed in tomato, with bread alongside.

What you need

For roughly two portions, gather one 400 g can of white beans, drained and rinsed; one 400 g can of chopped tomatoes; one small onion, sliced; one garlic clove, chopped; one tablespoon of olive oil; and a little ground cumin if you like it. Have bread ready to serve.

Bring it together

Warm the oil in a pan and cook the onion gently until softened, stirring as needed. Add the garlic and optional cumin, then stir briefly before adding the tomatoes.

Simmer until the sauce thickens to your liking. Stir in the beans and heat them through. Add a splash of water if the pan becomes too dry. Taste before adding salt, then serve with bread. Follow the canned products’ preparation instructions.

Leave room for dinner to vary

Health Canada includes legumes among plant protein foods in a varied eating pattern. That supports beans having a place at the table; it does not establish that this pan is nutritionally complete for every person. [1]

Adjust the amount to your appetite, and add other foods you want with the meal. There is no detox promise attached.

Recipe development note: this is an original concept, not kitchen-tested. Quantities, texture and approximate yield need checking before publication.

Sources, evidence and limits

Evidence basis: Full archived MBG daily-menu article read, including its product and course promotion. Health Canada2026varied-eating guidance read in full. Independent recipe composition; no recipe execution, nutrient analysis or tested yield. Evidence supports ingredient category, not this recipe’s outcomes.

Least certain: Taste, texture, yield and suitability of the untested recipe; individual needs. Not established as a complete meal or clinical intervention.

Contrary evidence and context: A varied day can contain convenient packaged foods and supplements may have valid indications. Rejecting promotional detox claims does not mean every supplement or individualized restriction is unnecessary.

What would change the conclusion: Kitchen testing may require changing quantities or method; individual allergy or clinical needs change suitability. Nutrient adequacy requires a separate assessment.
